Interventional Radiology Expands Horizons
of Care at Newport Hospital

Deborah McCain, a 72-year-old Newport native, got a dose of bad news when she learned that the source of the swelling in her leg was a life-threatening blood clot. McCain, who was being treated for lymphoma, had developed a hypercoagulative disorder that can occur with some cancers, putting her at higher risk for blood clots.

Physicians at Newport Hospital’s emergency department admitted McCain, prescribed a blood-thinning medication and placed her under the care of Eric Radler, MD, one of our hospitalists. Radler then consulted with Christopher Hampson, MD, an interventional radiologist who specializes in minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.

A Planned Gift Was Right for Louis Fazzano—and It Might Be Right for You

By making a planned gift to the Newport Hospital Foundation, Louis Fazzano not only continued his long and impressive career as a philanthropist but he also made an investment in the future of Newport Hospital and in the health of the patients and families we serve. Among his many accomplishments, Fazzano has served as a member and as chairman of Newport Hospital’s board of trustees. He was the guest of honor at our 2009 gala.

Hand Surgeon Returns Home to Newport

As the daughter of a plastic surgeon who practiced at Newport Hospital, Alexis Roettinger, MD, knew as a little girl that surgery was in her future.

"I was always 'daddy's little girl,' and I wanted to follow in my father's footsteps," she says. "I tried to keep an open mind throughout medical school, but deep down I knew all along that I wanted to be a surgeon. My interest in hands was sparked when we studied their anatomy, and I gained a new respect for how intricate and delicate, but at the same time how powerful and strong, they are."

During her surgical residency, Roettinger was able to work with a hand surgeon and quickly realized that the field had everything she was looking for: challenging work and the chance to make a big difference in her patients' quality of life. Read More > >
