On July 7, more than 500 guests gathered at Wakehurst, located on the beautiful campus of Salve Regina University, to celebrate the extraordinary generosity and dedication of Noreen Stonor Drexel. More than $516,000 was raised for the hospital and for the Noreen Stonor Birthing Center.
Chaired
by Gladys V. Szápáry and her able committee, the evening included a
cocktail reception, dinner prepared by Russell Morin Fine Catering, and
music by the Mac Chrupcala Orchestra. Family members and friends from as
far as England came to Newport to be with Mrs. Drexel on this happy
occasion. Special guest speakers included Senator Jack Reed, Senator
Sheldon Whitehouse and Newport Hospital’s own Orest V. Zaklynsky, MD.
Auctioneer Paul Zekos of The Zekos Group once again worked magic and
raised more than $100,000 through a live auction and blitz that
benefited the hospital and its award-winning birthing center, which is
so dear to Mrs. Drexel’s heart.
“Mrs. Drexel has dedicated her life to furthering the causes about which she feels most passionate: childbirth, health and education. Throughout her many years in Newport, she has been a true champion of Newport Hospital,” says August B. Cordeiro, president and chief executive officer of Newport Hospital.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this event such a great success!
