Behavioral health: Board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers providing outpatient therapy programs for adults and children. 401-845-4340.
Cardiac rehabilitation program: A program of the Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center; designed for patients who have experienced or are at risk for a cardiac issue.
Cardiopulmonary services: Testing such as echocardiography, EEG, EKG, Holter monitoring, Holter event monitoring, stress testing, pulmonary function testing, esophageal lab are all part of the cardiopulmonary services department. Please see also the Lifespan Sleep Disorders Center. 401-845-1175.
Chemotherapy: In the infusion therapy department, or IV therapy, as prescribed by physicians. 401-845-1646.
Dermatology: A hospital-employed, board-certified dermatologist is located in the Portsmouth medical campus on Turnpike Avenue. 401-683-7434.
Diagnostic imaging: Types of exams are bone density, digital mammography, fluoroscopy, MRI, CT scan, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, x-ray, and the less common procedures of stereotactic biopsy, breast MRI, and interventional radiology. Digital mammography, MRI, CT, and x-ray services are done both in the hospital and in the Portsmouth Imaging Center. 401-845-1350.
Emergency department: Several treatment rooms, specially trained staff; open 24 hours a day.
Family medicine: The hospital maintains three community-based family medicine offices with board-certified physicians and registered nurse practitioners:
Hand Surgery: Newport Hand Surgery diagnoses and treats problems such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, fingertip injuries, ganglion cysts, fractures, sports injuries, sprains, trigger finger and tendinitis. 401-683-7070

Laboratory: The hospital outpatient clinical lab provides walk-in service with a physician referral.

Lactation specialists: The Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center at Newport Hospital, a Baby Friendly facility, has certified lactation consultants to help breastfeeding mothers. 401-845-1110.
Neurology: Hospital-employed, board-certified neurologist who diagnoses and treats neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, effects of stroke, and more. 401-848-6042.

Pulmonary medicine: Hospital-employed, board-certified pulmonologists who diagnose treat diseases and disorders of the lungs and respiratory system (asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, sleep apnea and more). 401-848-6042.
Rehabilitation: Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center offers many outpatient programs, including cardiac and pulmonary rehab, a congestive heart failure program, a falls prevention program, lymphedema treatment, occupational therapy, an orthotics / prosthetics clinic, physiatry, speech therapy, and wound care. Rheumatology: Board-certified rheumatologist to diagnose and treat clinical problems involving the joints, soft tissue and connective tissue, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus and spondylitis. 401-845-4332.
Surgical services: Modern surgical and endoscopy suites for a broad array of both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, including colorectal, dental/oral/maxillofacial, ear/nose/throat, gastroenterological, GYN, hand surgery, neurosurgical spine, ophthalmologic, orthopedic, plastic (cosmetic), podiatric, pulmonary, thoracic, vascular, urologic and others, including minimally invasive procedures.
Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center (also see inpatient list):
Behavioral health: A 15-bed psychiatric unit staffed by specially trained psychiatric nurses and psychiatrists.
Birthing center: A modern, home-like center staffed by obstetric nurses, obstetricians, pediatricians, pediatric nurses, and lactation consultants. Received Baby Friendly designation from the World Health Organization and UNICEF in 2004 and second consecutive designation in 2010. Nurses available around the clock to answer questions from new and expecting parents.
Intensive care unit: An eight-bed ICU staffed by registered nurses who have specialized training in intensive care and by board-certified physicians, including hospitalists, cardiologists, intensivists, and pulmonologists.
Medical/surgical units: Recently renovated, all private rooms with private bathrooms and phones, telemetry for monitoring patients with cardiac issues. Staff include board-certified hospitalists, registered nurses who have twice earned Magnet designation, certified nursing assistants, therapists, social workers.
Pediatrics unit: A nine-bed pediatric unit, opened in 2008, with private rooms and child-friendly décor and amenities.
Surgical services/OR: Fully equipped, modern surgical suites for a broad array of procedures, including colorectal, dental/oral/maxillofacial, ear/nose/throat, gastroenterological, GYN, neurosurgical spine, ophthalmologic, orthopedic, plastic (cosmetic), podiatric, pulmonary, thoracic, vascular, urologic and others, including minimally invasive procedures.
Vanderbilt Rehabilitation Center: Highly rated, CARF-approved 12-bed rehabilitation hospital within Newport Hospital; staffed by a physiatrist, nurses and therapists, and hospitalists.
