Newport Hospital named Breast Imaging Center of Excellence

Newport Hospital has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.

The designation indicates that the hospital is fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy.Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that Newport Hospital has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

Hospital president and CEO August B. Cordeiro says he is proud of the radiologists and staff involved. “This achievement makes Newport Hospital a full-service breast health center,” he says. “The designation, along with our ongoing accreditations for mammography and breast MRI, shows that women can feel confident in our capabilities for breast cancer screening, diagnosis, image-guided biopsy, pre-op planning, and long-term follow-up.”
