Newport Hospital Sponsors Pell Bridge Run

Posted Monday, October 29, 2012

Newport Hospital is the principal sponsor of the 2012 Citizens Bank Pell Bridge Run scheduled for Sunday, November 11.  The hospital is sponsoring the race to promote health and wellness among youth and families of Newport County.  The four-mile run/walk begins on the Jamestown side of the bridge at 6:30 a.m. and ends in downtown Newport. The unique location and spectacular views makes this event an especially attractive opportunity for both runners and walkers. Proceeds from the run will support several Rhode Island charities, including the Newport County YMCA and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

Funding for the sponsorship is made possible by the Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund at Newport Hospital.  The fund is a gift from the Frederick Henry Prince 1932 Trust, conferred to Newport Hospital by Elizabeth Prince of Newport and her children, Diana Oehrli, Guillaume de Ramel, and Regis de Ramel. The fund supports the hospital’s mission to improve the health status of all the residents Newport County by making grants to entrepreneurial and innovative individuals and programs that encourage participation in athletic activities, combat the use of alcohol and drugs, and promote emotional and psychological well-being among youth and families.

Last year the fund provided grants to eight deserving programs across Newport County and is now accepting applications for funding for 2013. To apply for a grant or for further information, go to www.fhprincememorialfund.org.  An advisory committee, chaired by Guillaume de Ramel, with committee members Lori Allan, RN; Jane Beezer; Gus Cordeiro; Patricia Kidder; and Roger Warburton evaluate the proposals and recommend grant awards to the Newport Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees.
